On the 31st of October and the 1st of November 2019, LIVE Sydney was the setting for Endoscopic Ultrasound training (EUS) and Endobronchial Ultrasound Training (EBUS). Both days were facilitated by Sharon Kirk (Clinical Educator, Medical Affairs).
At the EUS workshop, three attendees from Concord Hospital and Ramsay Health learned about the importance of EUS indications, basic background physics, image interpretation and EUS scope differences. This was then followed by hands-on sessions covering EUS fine needle aspiration and sampling, as well as trouble shooting. The hands-on experience allowed the nurses to put theory into practice in the medical suite.
The EBUS training also saw the same number of nurses in attendance, this time coming from Westmead Private Hospital and John Hunter Hospital. EBUS training takes attendees through the theory of ultrasound, how EBUS-TBNA is performed, radial EBUS theory, and a hands-on session covering TBNA needle and radial EBUS. The nurses enjoyed the hands-on experience, with each having a turn at executing the TBNA needle and radial EBUS components of the practical session.
An Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Training was held on the 5th of November 2019. The day saw five registered nurses from NSW Health, Lithgow Hospital, Healthe Care and the Diagnostic Endoscopy Centre attend the workshop to learn more about endoscope mechanics, reprocessing, pre-cleaning steps as well as getting hands-on practice utilising the LIVE Cleaning Room. Attendees of the workshop also received a tour of LIVE Sydney where they were shown Olympus technology across all business units, and informed about the types of events held within the centre.
The three workshops were well received, with the attendees enjoying their training with Clinical Educator Sharon Kirk, and leaving happy with the knowledge they had gained form their time in the centre.
