The last week of September saw LIVE Auckland host three Olympus Academy workshops over a three-day period. On Wednesday 25th September, LIVE hosted the Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) course with three in attendance. Followed by Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Training (ERST) on Thursday 26th September with 12 attending. The week finished off with 4 guests attending the Endoscopic Ultrasound Course on Friday 27th September. All three workshops were facilitated by Sharon Kirk, (Olympus Academy Consultant, Medical Affairs).
Although each training covered different subjects, they all followed a similar format. Throughout the courses, the attendees from hospitals across New Zealand, gained new knowledge in the LIVE training room. They then got to put their new-found knowledge into practice, with hands-on stations in either the LIVE medical suite or cleaning room. This layout of theory followed by hands on time always receives positive feedback as a successful way of learning.
Great feedback was received across all three courses. Kathryn Qu (Registered Nurse, Auckland District Health Board) who attended the EBUS said, “It was an excellent course, Sharon explained everything really well and made all of it so easy to understand.”. When Kym Hare (Registered Nurse, Northland District Health Board) was asked how she found the ERST, she stated that it was a great day where she learnt heaps and especially enjoyed the practical elements to the training.
It was a great three days of education and LIVE Auckland looks forward to hosting the next Olympus Academy workshops.
