Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Workshop (ERST) and Train the Trainer (TTT): 24th – 25th June 2019

June 28, 2019

On Monday the 24th of June 2019, the LIVE Auckland facility welcomed eleven nurses for Olympus Academy’s Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Workshop (ERST) facilitated by Premsiri Ngoenthongkrajang (Clinical Educator) and Sharon Kirk (Olympus Academy Consultant). Customers attended from Waitemata Endoscopy, Mobile Health, Rotorua Hospital, Fiji Medical Camp, Thames Hospital, North Shore Hospital, Mercy Ascot and Grace Hospital.

The course, which focuses on training medical professionals on the correct procedure for cleaning flexible endoscopes, received great feedback. Justine Crampton (Registered Nurse, Rotorua Hospital) said that “this training is a must and I will be recommending it to all my peers” and Liz Grant (Clinical Nurse Manager, Mobile Health) stated “thank you, it was great to have hands on cleaning experience in your lovely LIVE cleaning room”.

Following on from Monday’s ERST course, LIVE Auckland hosted an Endoscope Reprocessing Train the Trainer Course (TTT) on Tuesday June 25th. This course was once again facilitated by Premsiri and Sharon with Teresa Giles (Training Manager) joining the session.

The course is a follow on from ERST and is aimed at more senior staff who often find themselves teaching newer staff members best practice when cleaning and handling endoscopes. TTT is designed to provide information, competency tools and hands-on training to attendees which enables them to have the resources, knowledge and skills required to establish training programs within their hospital or region.

LIVE Auckland welcomed back guests from the previous day’s workshop, Liz Grant (Clinical Nurse Manager, Mobile Health) and Binu Chacko (CSSD Technician, North Shore Hospital) as well as new guests; Hua Yu (CSSD Quality Coordinator, North Shore Hospital), Bipin Thomas (Educator, Waikato District Health Board) and Ashley Frazer (Endoscopy Technician, Middlemore Hospital).

Again, the day was enjoyed by all and received great feedback. Ashley said, “I have gained a lot of knowledge and new ideas for best practice to implement from today, thank you”.

Hua noted “I really appreciated the ‘how to train’ element of the course”.
